What is Art Deco?

The term Art Deco was coined after the name of the exposition that marked, in Paris, 1925, the height of the style – Exposition des Arts Decoratifs et Industriels Modernes (International Exposition of Modern Industrial and Decorative Arts). This denomination is recent, at the early 20th century it was called “Modern Style”.

It covers virtually all human creation, in all domains, roughly between 1915 and 1945. Architecture, interior design, fashion, art, industrial design, cinema, graphic arts, advertising, furniture.

The main characteristics are the geometric lines, giving emphasis to aerodynamics, and inspired by many ancient cultures, like Greece, Egypt, among others—and in the case of Brazil the Marajoara Culture (400-1400).
